The Governor's Special Election Targets Us

Teachers, nurses, firefighters and other public sector workers stopped the Governor from stealing our pensions.

Teachers and school employees fought against cutting schools.

Homecare workers and clients stopped the Governor's cuts to homecare.

Now…for daring to fight for working people, our children, and our parents, all of us are the targets of a campaign this November to silence our political voices.

The Initiative to Silence Our Voices

Prop. 75 is deceptive. Workers already have the right not to contribute to political campaigns . The U.S. Supreme Court decided that in 1988 in the landmark Beck vs. CWA (Communication Workers Association). What the governor and his corporate friends want with their initiative is to silence workers and shut them out of politics in California.

Prop.75 unfairly targets only public employees and not corporations with unnecessary restrictions which will threaten our ability to engage in any meaningful political action. The initiative is based on the lie that they don't.

Silences working families on issues that really matter to us: pensions, wages, schools, prescription drug costs, health care, home care, and basic job security.

Creates an uneven playing field, by applying only to public employees but not corporations. It tilts the balance of power in favor of corporations who already outspend labor unions by 24 to 1.

The Hidden Agenda. The people behind it claim it protects workers, but it's not workers who back the initiative; it's corporations. It's being paid for by a "Small Business Committee" funded entirely by big corporations.

Changes the rules to shut US down because we stand in the way of the Governor and his proposals to cut pensions, schools, healthcare, homecare, public safety, and more.
